The First Donation to the RTK Challenge

Recently I have made a few posts focused not about my thru-hike as an epic adventure, but as a way to “give back.”  When I decided to undertake this journey I also decided to raise money to help support the Appalachian Trail itself, by trying to set a one-year, fundraising record to benefit the Appalachian Trail Conservancy or the “ATC.”

Although I (or “we”) started the campaign with a $100,000 matching fund, we have a long way to go – not just on the 2,200-mile footpath to Katahdin, but to a goal of $250,000!  That is one reason I was so humbled and grateful for ATC Board member and AT icon Jennifer Pharr Davis for making the first donation to RTK’s AT Challenge.

Please consider these posts:

I hope you will join me and make RTK’s AT Challenge an undertaking for everyone that would like to help make it possible for future generations to enjoy “America’s” or the “People’s” trail.  Donate now.

I will be following you all the way to Maine. My prayers will be with you. Watch the rocks in Pennsylvania and enjoy every day on the trail.

Rowdy – I can’t thank you enough for following and especially for the prayers. Following (and meeting you) in 2014 was fueled my desire. Congratulations on your book. Anyone reading this comment should check out Rowdy’s own memoir of his the-hike – Hike it Forward.
